No. Gray die sets all dyable weapons/armor it's original/default colour. Adding a dye to a peice of armour that is already that colour comes up with an error message. If you want to make the weapon/armor a deaper colour, try mixing a dye of an other colour to it. Experiement a little, but know that not all weapons/armor dye the same way.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Grey Dye just replaced Dye Remover (so people would start using Dye Remover in dye mixes?)

Gray dye will not restore a defult colour unless the default colour was gray.
Most of the old armor had a default of yellow(gold) but now all armor has a default of gray.

Right.. because all armor now comes dyed gray. Dying Elite Canthan armor gray will dye it gray, which is its default color when you buy it.
I'm pretty sure that yellow dye will make it the best gold possible. Any mixtures will likely just dilute the yellow.
